If you feel like you don’t know much about the different cuts or what to do with them, I’d love to help! You don’t need one more thing to figure out in your day, so I’m sharing my favorite ways to cook our family-raised beef roasts.
Starting with some honesty: Where you buy your meat matters. When you start with high-quality, flavorful meat like ours, the cooking is the easy part. And the peace of mind you get from not second guessing where it came from, what it ate, or how long it's been on the shelf, means your family enjoy it even more.
Chuck roast – AJ’s favorite cut. These are usually the bigger ones with great marbling. Load the crock pot with some broth or cream of mushroom & water, season heavily, and cook on low for 6-8 hours. You will know when it's done because you can shred it with a fork! We love it over egg noodles, or with potatoes and a veggie on the side.
Rump roast – A leaner cut that slices beautifully. It’s usually smaller, so I save it for quieter nights when the kids aren’t home. We love it for sandwiches, French dips, or sliced warm over a salad. Be sure to slice it against the grain, so it doen't feel chewy.
Sirloin tip roast – The most tender of the bunch. It cooks faster—just hit it with a dry seasoning rub and roast in the oven for 1–2 hours. This one is sure to impress the inlaws at Friday Family Dinner, or the kids after a night at the ball field. It's the perfect main dish.
Round roast / round steak – I’ll be honest, I usually grind this one. We go through so much ground beef that I turn it into hamburger patties or snack sticks. It’s just too handy that way! Round roast can get tough if you aren't careful!
If your family is in search of roasts that fit in your dinner routine and you can feel good about, text me at 920-905-3806 and we can arrange pickup at the farm. Certain cuts sell out fast! Happy roasting!
